Subject Line: You Can Break the Filibuster

Dear xxTitle Last Namexx,

As a registered independent voter in the state of XX State nameXXX, you can have an important role in the battle over confirming appellate Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy.

After you have read this e-mail carefully, I will ask you to answer a brief three-question Fairness in Government Survey.

But first, I want to emphasize that Judge Gorsuch has one of the most important hallmarks of a jurist worthy to sit on the nation's highest court: He has a strong record of following the Constitution and the laws of the United States as written.

President Trump made it clear that we do not need any more activist Justices on the Supreme Court who ignore the Constitution and the law and make up their own laws based on their personal point of view. Judge Gorsuch is the right nominee to fulfill the President's mandate.

Many U.S. Supreme Court rulings through the years have done great damage to America. That's what happens when a majority of justices rule against the plain text of the Constitution as our Founding Fathers wrote it.

America must return to normalcy and common sense. We need Supreme Court Justices who read the Constitution and then actually follow it. For instance, the Constitution sets out how elections in our nation are to be conducted. But the Constitution does not give Senators the right to overturn an election like some are doing right now by carrying on a filibuster campaign to derail the confirmation of Judge Gorsuch.

What is happening in Washington right now strikes at the heart of the idea that our government must be fair. When a small minority of U.S. Senators abuse the rules to delay the confirmation of Judge Gorsuch to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy, as they are doing now, it is not fair. When other Presidential appointees are dragged through the mud and harassed by a loud minority, it is not fair. And when one political party seeks to overturn the results of an election the other party won fair and square, it is definitely unfair as well as unAmerican.

Judge Gorsuch's record makes it clear that judges should base their decisions on the law and the Constitution, not their own policy preferences or personal feelings. He will be fair to all regardless of their background or beliefs.

As an independent voter, you can play an important role in confirming Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Your Democratic U,S. Senator, xxFirst, Last Namexx, is up for reelection next ear. This is the time when your Senator will begin listening and paying attention to independent voters like you.

Urge him or her to break the filibuster that is holding up confirmation of Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
